What is ethnographic research?
Ethnography is the study of cultures. Ethnographic researchers work “in the field,” in the culture which they are studying. As a research method, ethnography is used in many disciplines, among them anthropology, political and social studies, education, and design.

CASE STUDY:Understanding Commuters of the Piccadilly Line
Ethnography provided the tools to observe commuters’ behaviours and identify communities
- Identifying problems with existing designs
- Understanding how people work, play and live
- Identifying why people do the things they do with a product, service or system
- Understanding what color, texture, material, size, or shape to make a certain product
- Determining if someone would buy a certain product
- Identifying how much someone would pay for a certain product
I think if I can understand how to use ethnographic research in the daily life, it can help me to make sense of the world. And then, I may create better design.
