Kolumba Museum-
"The Kolumba (previously Diözesanmuseum, "Diocesan Museum") is an art museum in Cologne, Germany. It is located on the site of the former St. Columba church, and run by the Archdiocese of Cologne. It is one of the oldest museums in the city and was founded by the Society for Christian Art in 1853, and taken over by the Archdiocese of Cologne in 1989. The site of its new home (built from 2003-2007, architect Peter Zumthor) was originally occupied by the romanesque Church of St. Columba, which was destroyed in World War II and replaced in 1950 by a Gottfried Böhm chapel nicknamed the "Madonna of the Ruins"

The new bricks are very long and wide, but not so high. But the old one are bigger than the new ones. As for the color, the old bricks are darker than new ones. but, amazing thing is that when the architect put them together, I did not feel a little shock. It can see more and more bricks are being used in new, exciting and experimental ways.
Jonathan Tuckey Design adds glazed extension to Grade II-listed Yew Tree House
"The owners of Yew Tree House previously had a small kitchen with little dining space, so they asked Gloucestershire firm Eastabrook Architects and Jonathan Tuckey Design to create a contemporary open-plan extension that remained respectful to the early 17th-century building.""We wanted the extension to be 'a space in between' the garden and the original house," architect Ryuta Hirayama told Dezeen.

The architect maintains two stone walls, but use a large area of glass in other sides. Tow stone wall connect with house, two frensh windows connect with outside. the whole space connects the indoor and outdoor spaces visually. The extension has been designed as a lightweight structure, when people move from the old house to the new extension, and on to the garden, it makes people feel nature and comfortable. creating both visual and psychological connections," said Hirayama.
The extension has a modern feeling and different from the existing house. However,it is nature and unobtrusive

USE IN MY PROJECT
In the front of the building, I choose a large area of glass to connect with old building. Glass is easy to take down, and it is friend to the old building. And in the visual, it create a lightness feeling and provide a good contrast and reflection.
